Xbox & Netflix Setup—Fast. Easy. With Quick Help if You Need It
From the New Xbox Experience House Party Event
It’s fast and easy to transform your TV into “movie central.” Just follow these simple steps.
Xbox Upgrade- Before Wednesday, November 19th: Ensure your Xbox 360 is connected to the Internet and set up your Xbox LIVE Gold membership.
- On Wednesday, November 19th: Turn on your Xbox 360 which should automatically connect to Xbox LIVE and notify you of a needed system update. Accept the update. When it’s fully downloaded, your console will reboot and you’ll be ready to jump into the New Xbox Experience.
For help with any aspect of your Xbox Upgrade: Call 1-800-4MY-XBOX or go online to the Xbox website.
Netflix Membership
In order to have any of 12,000 movies and TV episodes streamed directly to your TV, you’ll need to be a Netflix member. As a host for a New Xbox Experience House Party you qualify for a FREE 2-week trial membership.
To activate your Netflix membership, follow these simple steps:
- Turn on your Xbox 360.
- Go to the Video Marketplace channel in the New Xbox Live Experience.
- Select the Netflix channel.
- Instructions will load explaining how to activate the two week Netflix membership and how to link it to your Xbox LIVE account.

Hi, we tried to sign up for the free 2 week netflix trial and you need a credit card to do so, even for the trial. I called netflix to find out if we could pay any other way. they said you can do the prepaid visa cards that you buy in the store. So friday I am getting one and signing up for a month to see how it works. That way if we don't like it then there is nothing to loose. Just sign up for the cheapest one to be able to do streaming with. I think it is 8.99.
I even contacted xbox to see if you could pay with xbox points. You can't right now but they said that it would be a good idea. They would get lots more costumer's that way, especially collage students.
I can't wait to try this tomorrow.

All set-up with netflix and everything works on my tv. This is neat to be able to watch on the tv-instead of the computer screen. Thanks again!

I encountered the same problem with netflix when I tried to set it up last night. When I went to the netflix website the reason they gave was because I was a previous netflix member! So I am not eligible for the free trial! I contacted house party but, have not heard anything yet. I would definately like to see how the netflix streaming works befor I purchase a membership especially since I had problems with netflix in the past. Anyone have any advice?

We got the xbox live update today, but are being told we are not eligible for the 2 week free trial from netflix. I have called both netflix (twice!) and houseparty and nobdoy can help me. Netflix claims to not even know about houseparty and what is happening with the xbox live party, etc. and houseparty told me they didn't have an answer and I should call back tomorrow!!!
Is anyone else having this issue or know how I can work around it?

Okay, I got the e-mail re: gamertag id's too. I didn't even know ours. I asked DH, he gave it to me, and I replied to the mail. But I had also gotten an e-mail from that same person saying if I had not received my package yet to please reply. Hmmm. It looked "official" and I didn't think anything of it. But like another poster said, as long as we don't give out any passwords.

I did the update, but can't put in the code for netflix, yet. They have a message saying: Device activation is temporarily unavailable. Please try again in 2 hours. Guess I'll have to try, again, before going to class.

The e-mail is legit and house party just wants to make sure everyone is on live.
It's probably another way for them to see who is actually going to use the products and also so they know who hadn't gotten their main package, if anyone hasn't gotten theirs yet.

pennydan,
You won't be able to set up Netflix on your XBox until after you get the New XBox Experience system update (on the 19th). At that point the Netflix channel will be available (as I understand it)!
And the surprise was totally unexpected and awesome! We already broke it in (errrr...had to make sure everything worked for the party...yeah, that's it!) and had a blast! I'd played a version of Scene It on XBox at a friend's house and this new one was ever better. YAY!

I've been told by the help desk there is no worry on that e-mail. Who knows! Just don't give a PW and you should be fine. Have fun on Nov 22!!!!!

I also received an email from a person that doesn't seem to be affiliated with House Party or XBox, this is what it said "We are still missing your gamertag ids, we need this information as it ensures us that you are connected to Xbox Live. Please respond back with your full name and gamertag id by this Wednesday, the 19th. Thank you for your cooperation" It seems a little fishy. I advise everyone NOT TO GIVE OUT THIS INFO unless we hear from HouseParty/XBOX. I'm contacting houseparty about the email.

I received that email as well and immediately thought it sounded fishy and did not respond. MS already knows if I'm connected to xbox live or not, and has my full name.

I too received several emails from this person. I googled her and she works for a company called Projectline Services. It appears they are a strategic marketing firm. Their website shows that they have done work for Microsoft in the past.

I am pretty sure this is someone trying to hack into EVERYONE'S accounts. I advise everyone NOT TO GIVE OUT THIS INFO unless we hear from HouseParty/XBOX.
I'm contacting houseparty tomorrow by phone about the email.
